The Old Testament Contains Evidence of Five Periods of Worship

 

One: Early Hebrew Worship

Private Worship in the OT is spontaneous, ecstatic, and passionate

Public Worship is formal and Professional

Musical Instruments are used for accompanying Animal Sacrafices


Two: Mount Sinai Worship

Focuses on the redemptive acts of God in History Exod. 20:2-3,

Love God Completely Deut. 6:4-5

Worship Him alone Exod. 20:3-4

Love others as themselves Lev. 19:18


Three: Tabernacle Worship

Tent Structure devinely ordained to provide a place for God and His people to meet. Because of its portability it symbolized God's living presence among the Hebrews.


Four: Temple Worship

God provides a place of worship for His people and the building of a permanent site was the fulfilling of a covenant God made qith His peolpe in Deut. 12:5,11-26


Five: Synagogue Worship

Although outlined in the OT, it actually didn't take palce until the intertestament time around    600 B.C. An important center for Jewish education and worship. There were many emphasis placed in the temple.

Personal Piety, preaching, teaching, issues of faith, justice and mercy, as taught from the Torah and animal sacrafices
